RANCHERO SUPPER STEW 
2 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 lbs. beef cubes
1 env. Lipton onion soup mix
2 c. whole tomatoes
2 tbsp. chili powder
2 med. carrots, thinly sliced
1 sm. green pepper, chopped
1/2 c. celery, chopped
2 med. potatoes, cubed

Melt shortening in heavy skillet and brown meat. Add onion soup mix, tomatoes, water and chili powder. Cook uncovered for 30 minutes. Add vegetables. Cook uncovered for 45 minutes or until vegetables are tender and gravy is thick.
