DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate morsels, divided
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tbsp. milk
1 c. pecans, chopped

Place 1/2 cup chocolate morsels in top of double boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

Cream shortening; gradually add sugars, beating well at medium speed with an electric mixer. Add melted chocolate, egg, and vanilla; beat well. Stir in milk. Gradually add flour mixture and mix well. Stir in remaining 1/2 cup chocolate morsels and pecans.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until done. Let cool slightly; carefully transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Yields about 6 dozen cookies.
