HOLIDAY FRUIT BREAD | |
2 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm (110 degrees) water 2 c. scalded milk 1/2 c. shortening 2/3 c. sugar 2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. crushed cardamon seed 2 beaten eggs 4 c. sifted flour 1 c. white raisins 1 c. shredded citron 1 c. chopped maraschino cherries 4 c. sifted flour Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, shortening, sugar, salt and spice; cool to lukewarm; add softened yeast. Add eggs; mix well. Add 4 cups flour. Let raise until double in bulk. Punch down and knead lightly. Form in 2 round loaves in greased 9 x 1 1/2 inch pans. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 45 minutes. While warm, brush with butter. |
