OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING 
3 c. soft bread crumbs
2 c. milk, scalded with 1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg
1/2 c. seedless raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread crumbs in buttered 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Blend in another bowl the scalded milk with butter, sugar, slightly beaten eggs, salt, cinnamon or nutmeg and raisins. Place baking dish in a pan of hot water (1" deep). Bake until silver knife inserted 1" from edges comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm with or without white vanilla sauce or cream.
