APPLE TURNOVERS
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dried apples
24 oz. Wesson oil
2 c. sugar (if you like them sweet)
Cinnamon to taste

Soak apples in water 1 hour so they will cook quicker, using about 4 cups (more if needed). Do not have apples too soft. Cook until tender, adding sugar small amount at a time, then cinnamon.

Crust: Make dough same as biscuit, using about 3 cups flour. Add 2 tablespoons sugar to flour. Work in Crisco. Add milk (1/2 canned, 1/2 water). Roll out dough about the size of a biscuit (larger if wanted). Add apples on 1/2 of dough. Fold over other half of dough and with your fingers, press the edges to seal in apples, then press with a fork.

Put Wesson oil about 1/4 inch deep in a heavy pan (could use a broiler pan). Put jacks in pan and prick each jack with a fork to let out steam or they will come open. Bake about 350 degrees until the underside is well browned. Take out of oven turning over quickly and adding more oil if needed. When brown on other side, remove from oven. Put jacks on paper towels on plates putting a towel on top to remove excess oil. Do not let jacks stay on towels to long for they will stick to paper. Yield: 16 Jacks.
