BUTTERCUP CHEESE STRAWS | |
3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. pepper 3/4 lb. butter 1 lb. Cheddar cheese, shredded Sift flour, salt, and pepper into large bowl. Cut butter into small pieces and blend into dry ingredients with fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add cheese and continue blending until dough hangs together and is no longer crumbly. Work with 1/4 dough at a time. Roll into rectangle 1/3 inch thick. Cut into strips 1/2 inch wide and 4 inches long. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly browned. Do not overbake (it is easy to do). Remove and store in air-tight container, placing waxed paper between layers. Freezes beautifully. |
