RED CHOCOLATE CAKE & FROSTING 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, not beaten
2 oz. red food coloring
2 tsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs together. Add cocoa and food coloring. Add salt to buttermilk. Alternate flour and buttermilk to mixture. Add vanilla. Lastly fold in baking soda and vinegar. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. After cake cool to touch split into 4. Only put frosting between and on top of cake.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. butter

Cook milk and flour until thick. Cool. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy. Add cooled flour and milk mixture by spoonfuls into creamed mixture and keep beating fast at same time, beat until fluffy.
