OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
3 c. old fashioned oatmeal
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs. Beat well! Mix dry ingredients together (not oatmeal) and stir in. Add the vanilla and oatmeal; mix well. Shape into long roll or two and chill for several hours or overnight. Cut into slices.

Bake 15 minutes in 325°F to 350°F oven.

Makes 5 dozen.
