PASTIES 
DOUGH:

1 c. shortening
1 c. boiling water
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt

FILLING:

1 lb. hamburger, raw
1 sm. onion, diced
10-12 peeled potatoes, diced
2 carrots, peeled and diced

DOUGH: Pour boiling water over shortening. Stir until all shortening is melted. Add flour and salt; mix. Chill 1 hour. Roll and form into approximately 9-inch circles.

FILLING: Mix all ingredients together. Scoop 1 1/2 to 2 cups of mixture onto each circle of dough. Fold in half like a turnover; pinch edges to seal. Make a v-shaped vent hole in the top, about 1 inch across. Bake at 360 degrees for 45-55 minutes. Can be wrapped in foil after baking and frozen for use later. Makes about 9 pasties
