GRANDMA'S KUCHEN 
3/4 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Almond flavoring or nutmeg, to taste
1 c. water or milk

Cream butter and sugar well; add eggs, add dry ingredients, flavoring and water alternately. Line 2 large pie plates with pastry (or pie crust), pour in batter, top with pieces of butter, sprinkle with additional sugar. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until done. Yield: 8 servings.

PASTRY:

1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. cold water

Sift flour and salt together. Chop shortening into flour. Add liquid. Dough should become stiff enough not to stick to sides of bowl.
