1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 c. milk

Melt butter in saucepan. Add flour and salt and pepper. Stir. Add milk and continue to stir until desired consistency. Grated cheese may be added for a cheese sauce.
