MOM'S FAVORITE SPICE CAKE 
2 c. + 2 tbsp. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
3 eggs

Blend dry ingredients. Add brown sugar, soft shortening, buttermilk and beat 2 minutes. Add eggs, beat 2 more minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes in 9"x13" pan. When cool, frost with easy Penuche Frosting.

EASY PENUCHE FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1 3/4 - 2 c. powdered sugar

Melt butter. Stir in brown sugar. Boil and stir over low heat 2 minutes. Stir in milk. Bring to boil (boil hard 1 minute), stirring constantly. Cool to lukewarm and gradually add powdered sugar. Place pan in ice water and stir until spreading consistency.
