GRANDMA'S KOLACHES | |
2 c. milk 2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1 stick butter 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs, slightly beaten 6 c. flour (approx.) Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar over yeast and dissolve in warm water; set aside to rise. Heat milk and add butter to dissolve it. Let cool to lukewarm. Add salt, eggs (beaten), and sugar. Combine milk, egg mixture and yeast mixture, add flour gradually and work until glossy. Cover. Let rise until double, about an hour. Then divide into egg size portions with a spoon and form a ball. Place on oiled baking sheet (1" apart). Let rise until light, then make a well in center for your favorite filling (poppy seed, prunes, apricots, etc.). Bake at 325 to 350 degrees about 30 minutes. |
