CHERRY NUT BREAD 
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c. orange juice
1 tbsp. grated orange peel
2 tbsp. warm water
1/2 c. nuts
1 c. halved tart cherries

Sift together flour, sugar, and baking powder. Cut in shortening. Stir in egg, orange juice, peel, and water. Fold in cherries. Pour into greased 8 x 4 x 3 inch loaf pans. Bake an hour at 350 degrees. Cool before slicing.

LOVE this! I live in Michigan and our family has cherry orchards. I couldn't wait to harvest the tart cherries so I could make this again this year. It's nice to make mini loaves and share with friends and family. Be sure to include the orange peel because it makes a huge difference in the taste. It's worth an extra trip to the grocery store even if it's the only ingredient you don't have.
