MOM'S BROWN BAG APPLE PIE | |
1 (9") unbaked pie shell 3-4 lg. baking apples FILLING: 1/2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. lemon juice TOPPING: 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. butter Pare, core and quarter apples. Cut into chunks (7 cups). Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, nutmeg and lemon juice. Sprinkle over apples. Toss to coat well. Place in pie crust. Combine 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup sugar. Cut in butter. Sprinkle topping mixture over apples. Slide pie into heavy brown paper bag to cover loosely. Fold open end over twice and fasten with paper clip. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees for 1 hour or until brown. Split bag open. Cool and serve with ice cream. |
