PIONEER CORN PONE 
2 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. melted shortening
1 1/2 c. boiling water
Bacon drippings

Mix cornmeal and salt; stir in melted shortening, then the boiling water. Wet hands; shape mixture into pones, leaving imprint of fingers on the pones. Place pones in heavy greased pan; brush tops lightly with bacon drippings. Bake until thoroughly dry. For a crusty, brown top, put under direct flame for one minute. Bake for 30 minutes in 375 degree oven.
