BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
3 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk

In mixer bowl, cream together sugar, shortening, and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and lemon extract. Thoroughly stir together the flour and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Pour into greased and floured ten inch tube pan. Bake in 325 degree oven for 1 hour 15 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes and then remove from pan and cool on rack.
