ANNIE'S FAVORITE SPAGHETTI AND
MEATBALLS
 
SAUCE:

1 lg. onion, chopped
3 tbsp. fat or oil
1 can tomatoes (2 1/2 c.)
12 oz. tomato paste
2 c. water
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf

MEATBALLS:

1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 c. bread crumbs
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
1 sprig parsley
1 clove garlic (opt.)
1/2 c. milk
2 well beaten eggs
Salt & pepper
Spaghetti

Cook onion in hot oil or fat until golden; add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Cook slowly 1 hour.

Combine meats, crumbs, cheese, milk, eggs and seasonings. Mix thoroughly; form into small balls; brown in hot oil or on cookie sheet in oven. Add to sauce and cook another hour, adding water if necessary. Serves 6 to 8.
