WHOOPIE PIE CAKE 
1 cup cold black coffee
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa (may use 1 cup for darker cake)
1/2 cup oil
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Put all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and beat for 3 minutes, then pour into 2 layer pans or a 9x13-inch pan which has been greased and floured.

Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes for layers and 45 minutes for 9x13-inch. May test done sooner. Remove from oven and let set in pans and cool on racks. When cool, ice with the following icing.

3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup sugar (granulated)
1/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Dash salt

Put all of the ingredients together in a bowl and beat for 15 minutes. This is very important. Also, you cannot substitute the Crisco for butter.

You may want to double the amounts if using layer pans.
