BAVARIAN APPLE TORTE 
1/2 c. butter, soft
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. apples, thinly sliced
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. almonds, toasted

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Beat together butter, 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla. Slowly stir in flour until mix forms soft dough. Press dough into bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of ungreased 9 inch spring form pan.

Beat cream cheese and 1/4 cup of sugar with electric mixer. Add egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, beat until smooth. Pour over dough mixture in pan.

Combine apples, cinnamon, and remaining sugar in bowl. Arrange in circular pattern partially over-lapping slices over cream cheese mix. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 400 degrees. Bake 25 minutes longer. Cool in pan on wire rack. Serves 6-8.
