AMISH PUDDING/CAKE 
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. butter
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt

SAUCE:

1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. nuts
1 tbsp. flour
1 well beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Put dates into boiling water for 1 hour or until cool. Add all ingredients. Place in lightly greased cake pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. When cool break into large bowl..

Sauce: Cook until thick. Cool. Fold into cake. Serve with Cool Whip.
