OLD FASHION DRIED APPLE CAKE 
1 c. sorghum
1 c. shortening (Puritan oil)
2 eggs, one at a time
5 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. each allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger
1/2 c. buttermilk

Beat sorghum, shortening and eggs until light and fluffy. Mix flour, soda, salt, baking powder and spices together. Mix well. Mix flour mixture alternately with buttermilk to first three ingredients, beating after each addition. Chill dough, pat out layers in 9 inch cake pan. Makes 6 layers. Cover each layer and top with cooked and sweetened dried apples.
