BLACK WALNUT CAKE 
3 c. self-rising flour
2 1/2 c. sugar
6 egg yolks (save the egg whites they will be used in icing)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 tbsp. crushed black walnuts

Sift together 3 cups self-rising flour and 2 1/2 cups sugar. Beat the 6 egg yolks in bowl, then add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla to yolks and mix well. Then add mix, egg yolk mixture with flour and sugar mixture. Melt 1/2 cup of shortening. Let cool. Then add to mixture of yolks, sugar and flour. Then add 1 1/2 cups of milk, 1 1/2 tablespoons of mashed up black walnuts to above mixture. Bake at 350 degrees until done. Makes 3 layers.

ICING:

Beat 6 egg whites until stiff. Then add 1 1/2 cups sugar. Frost cake. Then sprinkle with mashed up walnuts.
