MOLASSES CANDY (FROM 1800'S) 
2 c. molasses
2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Put all ingredients, except soda, into a large sauce pan and cook fast until a little of the mixture dropped into cold water feels brittle (256 degrees). Beat in the soda and turn onto a greased slab or agate tray to cool. As soon as it can be easily handled, pull with the fingers until white. Cut.
