VELVET MOLASSES CANDY 
1 c. molasses
3 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
3 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. melted butter
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Put molasses, sugar, water, and vinegar in large kettle. As soon as the boiling point is reached add cream of tartar. Boil until when tried in water mixture will become brittle. Stir constantly during last part of cooking. When nearly done, add soda and butter. Pour into buttered pans. When cool enough pull into long strips until porous and light colored. Then cut in pieces and wrap in wax paper.
