HOMEMADE BREAD 
1 c. milk (whole)
1 c. water
1 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 c. water
1 pkg. active dry yeast
6 1/2 c. flour

Scald 1 cup milk. Add 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon shortening, 1 tablespoon butter, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon salt. Add this mixture to 1/4 cup 110 degrees water with 1 package yeast in large bowl. The milk mixture will dissolve the yeast. Stir in 3 cups flour. Beat 1 minute then work in remaining flour. Place dough in greased bowl and cover with cloth.

Let rise for 1 hour at 450 degree oven. Punch dough lightly into 2 loaves. Place in greased pans. Cover and let the dough rise again until doubled in bulk.

Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Reduce heat to 350 degrees bake 30 minutes.
