1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. molasses
4 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses, mix well. Combine flour and next four ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 1 1/2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool on wire rack. Yield: about 8 dozen.
