CRISP SUGARED WALNUTS 
2 1/2 c. walnuts
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Place 2 1/2 cups walnut halves in a shallow pan. Heat in moderate oven (375 degrees) for about 15 minutes. Stir frequently. Take walnut halves out of the oven.

Cook 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup of water, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon salt to soft ball stage (236 degrees) without stirring. Remove from heat; add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, then all nuts.

Stir gently until all nuts are well coated and the mixture becomes creamy. Turn out on a greased platter. Separate the walnut halves as they cool. These sweet crusted nuts are good travelers.
