MARINARA SAUCE 
2 tbsp. olive or salad oil
1 sm. onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. basil
1 tsp. salt
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (14 1/2 to 16 oz.) can tomatoes

In a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat in hot oil. Cook onion and garlic until tender. Stir in sugar, basil, salt, tomatoes with their liquid and tomato paste; heat mixture to boiling. Stir to break up tomatoes. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 20 minutes.
