CARAMEL CAKE 
2 1/2 c. flour (plain)
1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 stick butter
3 tbsp. Crisco
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/3 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients except eggs. Blend thoroughly, then beat 2 minutes. Add eggs and beat 2 more minutes.

Bake in 2 layer pans 30 minutes at 350°F.

Icing:

1/4 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. milk
confectioners sugar

Cook and stir on medium heat. Boil 4 or 5 minutes. Cool. Add confectioners sugar to spreading stage. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
