APPLE CAKE WITH CARAMEL SAUCE 
1/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 c. apples (1/2 inch cubed, pared)
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. mace
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg

Cream butter, sugar and egg. Beat well. Add apples and sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Turn mixture into a buttered pan (9 x 9 x 9 inch). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

SAUCE:

1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. heavy cream
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar, butter and cream in a saucepan. Let mixture simmer 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Cool; add vanilla. Sauce may be refrigerated and used over again.
