DON'S PEANUT BUTTER - OATMEAL
BARS
 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. peanut butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 c. milk
1 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. quick cooking rolled oats

FROSTING:

2 c. confectioners' sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
3 tbsp. melted butter
2-3 tbsp. melted butter
2-3 tbsp. boiling water
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream together shortening, sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, and vanilla. until fluffy. Add egg and milk. Beat well. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture. Beat well. Add rolled oats.

Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Sift together sugar and cocoa. Stir in butter, water, and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Spread on cooled cookies. Combine 2 tablespoons melted butter, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and 3 or 4 tablespoons milk. Drizzle over chocolate frosting. When set, cut in bars.
