KENTUCKY STACK CAKE
1 c. sorghum (molasses)
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 heaping tsp. ginger
1/4 c. milk
4 large eggs
4 c. applesauce

Cream sorghum, butter and sugar until well blended. Mix milk with well-beaten eggs. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with egg-milk liquid. Stir until smooth only. Divide batter into 6 equal amounts of 1 cup batter in each. Spread batter in well-greased 9-inch cake pans.

Makes 6 layers.

Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove layers from pans and stack layers with applesauce on each layer. Sweeten and/or spice applesauce to taste.

Cake is better if stored in airtight container for a couple of days before serving.
