ENGLISH TOFFEE BARS 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. powdered (10X) sugar
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. quick-cooking oats
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped walnuts

Beat the butter until creamy. Mix in the sugars, egg, and vanilla. Add the flour and oats. Blend well and pat the crumbly mixture into a greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until no imprint remains when lightly touched with a finger. Do not overbake.

Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle on the chocolate chips. Place a cookie sheet on top of the pan to contain the heat to melt the chocolate. Spread this evenly over crust and sprinkle the nuts on top. Cool 15 minutes and cut into bars.
