DATE LOAF 
1 lb. dates, chopped
3 c. sugar
4 c. pecans or walnuts
1 c. milk
1/2 lb. candied cherries, chopped
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cook sugar and milk to hard ball stage. Add dates and cook 5 minutes, stirring well to melt dates. Remove from fire and add cherries, butter, and vanilla. Beat until thick. Roll in wet towel. Allow to harden. Unroll and slice.
