1 1/2 lbs. boneless beef 1 1/2 lbs. boneless pork 2 1/2 c. coarsely chopped celery Soy sauce 2 1/2 to 3 c. onions 2 (No. 2 1/2 cans) bean sprouts Mushrooms (whole) (optional) 1 (5 oz.) jar brown gravy Have meat cut in small chunks. In 2 to 3 tablespoons Crisco, brown meat, onion, and celery. Drain the liquid from both cans of bean sprouts. To this liquid, add the whole jar of the brown gravy sauce and about half a bottle (5 ounce) of soy sauce. Stir well and add to the meat which has browned. Cover and allow to cook slowly until meat is tender, approximately 2 hours. Add bean sprouts and mushrooms. Make a thickening with flour and water and continue to cook until gravy is cooked. May be served over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles. This can be made ahead and frozen but when doing that, add bean sprouts and mushrooms when just before serving. |
