FRENCH ONION SOUP 
2 cans beef consomme
2 med. + 1 lg. onion, diced or julienned
4 pieces hard dark rye bread
1 can water
1 can dry white wine
Swiss cheese slices

Saute onions in butter until brown and tender. Add to soup, water, and wine mixture and simmer, uncovered 1/2 hour. Fill bowls with soup mixture. Place toasted bread over soup. Cover with slices of Swiss cheese so they hang over edge of bowl. Bake at 350 degrees until cheese melts.
