GREEK BUTTER COOKIES -
KOURABIEDES
 
1 lb. unsalted butter
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 c. orange juice
1 jigger cognas
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. ground walnuts

With electric mixer, cream the softened butter. Add egg yolk and cognac. Beat well. Gradually add sugar. While beating, add orange juice, and baking powder. Add walnuts. Then add enough flour to this mixture to shape dough. Shape into little balls (the size of walnuts) or in a crescent shape. Place a clove in the center of each cookie. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. After they cool, sift confectioners' sugar over the cookies. Store in air-tight containers.
