HERMAN STARTER WITH MILK | |
1 tbsp. sugar 1/3 c. warm water 2 pkgs. active dry yeast 2 c. milk 1 c. sugar 2 c. all-purpose flour Sprinkle sugar over warm water; sprinkle yeast over this and let stand in a warm place to double in size, about 10 minutes. Mix yeast mixture with the rest of the ingredients in a glass or plastic bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon and cover loosely. Place in a warm place overnight. Next day refrigerate, loosely covered, and stir each day. On the fifth day, measure out 1 cup to bake with, then feed: 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk and 1/2 cup sugar. Stir daily and keep in refrigerator. On the 10th day, measure out 1 cup. Bake or give to a friend. Feed again. Return to refrigerator and feed every 5 days. |
