1 c. cornmeal
1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp. shortening
2 tbsp. syrup
1 tsp. baking soda

Add enough buttermilk or sour milk to make a batter like for a cake. Bake in a greased tin until done and serve while still warm. Put lots of syrup on the cake.
