BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLE 
1 gallon sliced cucumbers
8 sm. white onions, sliced
2 green peppers, shredded
1/2 c. pickling salt
Ice water
5 c. white vinegar
5 c. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. tumeric
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed

Mix onions, cucumbers and peppers. Add the salt and cover with ice water. Let stand 3 hours, then drain well. Bring vinegar, sugar and spices to boiling. Add vegetables; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Pack in hot pint jars. Adjust jar lids. Process 5 minutes in boiling water bath. Yield: 7 pints.
