SECRET COOKIES
2-3/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup butter flavored shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup ketchup
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Sift together flour, salt and soda. Set aside. Cream together butter or shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Use mixer at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla, ketchup, raisins and walnuts.

Drop by heaping teaspoon, 2 inches apart, on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly with finger. Remove from baking sheet and cool slightly.

While cookies are still warm, brush with lemon glaze. These cookies are so named because their flavor and color is due to the secret ingredient, namely, ketchup.

LEMON GLAZE:

1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice

Stir until smooth.
