VIRGINIA SLICES - SWEET PICKLES 
Let stand 1 week and stir every day 1 gallon sliced medium size cucumbers. Cover with cold water and add 1 cup canning salt. Put in crock after 1 week. Drain and wash. Add 1 tablespoon alum. Cover with cold water and let stand overnight. Drain and wash. Boil in water to cover with 1 tablespoon ginger for 10 minutes (add a few drops green food coloring). Drain and wash. Boil:

6 c. sugar
2 c. water
4 c. vinegar
1 tbsp. celery salt
1 bag pickling spices
1 tbsp. salt

Add cucumbers and boil 10 minutes. Put in pint canning jar. Seal.
