BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. cucumbers
6 onions
1/3 c. salt
2 trays ice
4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar

Wash and drain cukes. Slice and add onions. Add salt and mix well. Cover with ice and let it stand 3 hours. Rinse and drain. Combine spices, sugar, and vinegar. Heat to boiling and add cukes and bring to a boil but do not boil. Pack and seal. Keep in refrigerator if desired.
