CHOCOLATE CHERRY BROWNIES 
2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. quick cooking oats
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 c. chopped, drained maraschino cherries
2 tsp. vegetable shortening

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In heavy 2 quart saucepan on low heat, melt 1 cup of the chocolate chips with butter until smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to chocolate mixture. Fold in oats, nuts, 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips and 1/2 cup cherries. Spread into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 25 minutes. Cool. Cut into squares but leave in pan. Sprinkle remaining cherries on top. Melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips and shortening together slowly. Drizzle on top of cherries making lacy pattern. Chill 15 minutes. Re- cut.
