2 c. light brown sugar 2/3 c. shortening 2 tbsp. cream 2 eggs 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla 3 to 3 1/2 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and cream well. Add sifted flour, baking powder, and flour. Chill dough 2-3 hours. FILLING: 1 1/2 c. dates, cut up 3/4 c. water 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. chopped nuts Cook fruit, sugar, and water until thickened. Cool. Add nuts. Roll dough in two narrow sheets, spread on filling and roll like jelly roll. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Slice and bake at 450 degrees until light brown, 10-12 minutes. |
