DATE & NUT BREAD 
1 1/2 c. dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. Crisco
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Wash and stone dates and cut in quarters, cover with boiling water and add Crisco. Add sugar and salt. When cool add beaten egg. Sift flour with soda and cream of tartar and add to date mixture. Add nuts and vanilla. Beat and put into greased bread tin. Bake 1 1/4 hours in 350 degree oven.
