FLOUR TORTILLAS | |
6 c. flour 1/2 tbsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 2 to 4 c. hot water (hot as hands can stand) Place flour, baking powder, salt and shortening in bowl. Cut shortening until it is in very small crumbs. Then add small amount of hot water and mix until dough is a soft spongy ball. Knead 5 minutes and let rest, then knead again. Do this about 3 times. Form into balls about 1 inch in diameter. Roll out on floured board. Then place in hot dry skillet and cook about 1 minute on each side. Place hot tortillas in foil to keep soft. If they get hard, place in hot skillet for 1 minute. |
