CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 c. soft shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt

Divide dough in half. Color half with red food coloring. Roll 1 teaspoon of each 9 inches long and twist together, forming the shape of a candy cane. Place on ungreased pan. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint and sugar after cooking, while still warm.
