1 1/2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. sugar
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. raisins
1 c. pecans
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour

Beat egg and applesauce. Cream together with shortening and sugar. Add nuts and dates. Mix well; add flour and spices, mixing well. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.

ICING:

1 tbsp. flour
1 c. nuts
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 sm. can crushed pineapple
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. coconut
1/4 c. applesauce

Mix together all ingredients and cook for 5-6 minutes or until it thickens. Pour over warm cake.
